Nietzsche Knew Windows
I am more intrigued by Nietzsche’s retort of “then what are windows?,” since mine run from floor to ceiling and shed wonderful warm sunlight on me along with a view of the Time/Warner Center as well as an eccentric older couple that practice disco dancing at 5:00pm every evening.
The Covid lockdown taught me to truly appreciate my windows in many different lights, so when a friend decided to replace theirs, I took her to Peter Manning, Founding Partner of Revival Sash, a custom window designer and manufacturer.
“Revival proudly maintains old-world traditions, but we are constantly redefining ourselves with the latest technology, specifically regarding mindfulness of the environment,” explained Manning.
My friend was more interested in tinted glass than Nietzsche, and fortunately we came to the right place. “We’ve brought together a staff that has been on the forefront of technology, glass and hardware,” said Brian Trager, founding partner, who introduced us to Thermochromic Glass, a self-tinting technology that darkens gradually and dynamically when heated by direct sunlight and it puts Revival at the technological forefront of the industry.
“Thermal performance and technology is essential to what we do in our business, which has evolved into both an art and a science, and as building and construction changes and becomes greener every day, so do we,” said Manning.
As for my Nietzsche question, Trager and Manning directed me to Revival engineer Angus Herron, who had this immediate response:
“Windows are the eyelashes of the building.”
